- According to a study that was conducted by the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, heavy drinking by college students is prevalent and, among some students, quite frequent; more than 80% of college students reported consuming alcohol in the past year, with more than 40% reporting at least one episode of binge drinking in the previous 2 weeks.
- Between 1921 and 1923, about seven thousand persons were arrested for breaking prohibition laws in New York. However, only 27 of them were convicted.
- The longer period of time that an individual who is alcohol dependent stays sober, the more likely that they will be to abstain from alcohol use; it is imperative to note that many people will relapse several times before ultimately achieving the goal of long-term sobriety.
