  • The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) says the brain continues to develop into the early 20s, and exposing the brain to alcohol in that period may impair brain development.
  • What Is Binge Drinking? Binge alcohol use is defined as drinking five or more drinks on the same occasion on at least 1 day in the past 30 days (from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health [NSDUH]). Heavy drinking is defined as binge drinking on at least 5 days in the past month.
  • An average sized woman would have to drink 10-14 beers or glasses of wine within a relatively short period of time to reach the lethal blood alcohol concentration of 0.4%.
  • According to the National Household Survey on Drug Use and Health and the College Alcohol Study, among college students that were between the ages of 18-24, alcohol-related unintentional injury deaths increased 3% per 100,000 from 1,440 in 1998 to 1,825 in 2005.
