Acetaldehyde is a carcinogenic byproduct of alcohol metabolism. Acetaldehyde promotes cancer in several ways, by interfering with the copying of DNA and by inhibiting a process by which the body repairs damaged DNA.
A warning sign of alcohol dependency includes the inability to remember some of the events of the previous evening or feeling anxious in a social situation where there is no alcohol.
"I just drink socially." REALITY: Drinking with other people doesn't make you a social drinker. Social drinkers might drink regularly but they don't get drunk.
